The port of Boca Chica is one of three ports serving the capital city of Santo Domingo, it is situated about 20 miles east of the city but scarcely 5 miles east of the international airport. Although this port was built in the 1950’s to export sugar, it is now almost exclusively used for import cargoes, mainly trailers, containers and some lumber, newsprint and homogeneous cargoes.
