The port of Cabo Rojo is a one berth private installation built by the ALCOA EXPLORATION COMPANY for its bauxite and limestone mining operations near the Haitian border in the Southwest corner of the Dominican Republic. This mining operation is now controlled by another company IDEAL DOMINICANA, S.A., and the port facilities are still used for the shipments of limestone and bauxite.
Recently, two hoppers for Cement Clinkers in bulk were installed to receive cargo from self-unloading vessels. The height of these hoppers are 10.5 meters over sea level at low tide.
